Garbage Disposal Cleaner and Deodorizer

I’ve had a number of queries from visitors about how best to clean your garbage disposal unit. There are plenty of branded products available for just a few dollars, together with some cheap-and-cheerful tricks to make sure your disposer is clean and odor-free. In this post, I’ll cover the main branded products together with some good practice tips.

Branded Garbage Disposal Cleaner

There are more than a dozen cleaning products on the market, all with great brand names and with different advantages. Here are my mini reviews of the top three favorite products.

1. Glisten Disposer Care Foaming Cleaner (Summit Brands)

What does it do? Cleans and deodorizes your unit.

How does it work? Inside the main package are four packets of chemicals, each sealed in a bio-disposable wrapper. Run hot water into the sink and so through your disposer for a minute or two, then turn down the hot water to a trickle. Take one of the bio-disposable packs and push it into the disposer. Now switch on the disposal unit. You’ll probably see foam come out of the unit into the sink (which is ok) and once it’s all dispersed, your unit will be clean and the bleach will remove most odors!

Price: Normally $27.99 but check out some amazing deals with up to 90% off MRP !

2. Mr Scrappy Universal Garbage Disposal Brush

What does it do? Special brush that cleans the inside of your garbage disposal unit.

How does it work? Unlike the first two options, this is the manual approach! It’s a special brush that you push into your disposer and brush up and down to get rid of deposits and bits of food that are stuck inside. Works with pretty much any disposer – just make sure that the unit is switched off when you use it!

3. Affresh Garbage Disposal Cleaner Tablets

What does it do? Cleans and deodorizes your unit, has a range of fragrances.

How does it work? The main package includes tablets that you drop into your garbage disposal unit on a regular basis, depending on how often you use your disposer. The tablet breaks down inside the disposer and help remove build ups of fat and release a fragrance to remove unpleasant odors.
